Criminals have caused a large number of damage to parked cars within the last four days. In one case three vehicles were targeted on a driveway, and tyres were slashed. Plse be vigilant and report any suspicious activity near parked and unattended cars, whether on the street or a house driveway.

Mobile phones and purses continue to be stolen from ladies handbags whilst in pubs, restaurants, dance halls and on shopping trips. Make sure your mobile phone and purse is zipped up, and out of sight in your handbag. Don`t leave them unattended on tables, shop counters or shopping trollies.

Several reports of thefts from motor vehicles have been received from car owners who have inadvertently left their vehicles parked and unattended, but unlocked. Be careful when using cash ATM`s. A local man who was withdrawing cash from an ATM in Coalville was approached by a 17 yr old white male, who told him he`d dropped a ten pound note. Whilst the man was looking on the floor for the money, the young man grabbed his card from the machine and ran off. Be aware of people around you when using ATM machines, and be on your guard. |

Theft of fuel from motor vehicles continues to be reported. In the last four days three offences have been reported; in the first crime a fuel store was attacked in a secure yard; in the second crime two vehicles were attacked in a secure yard and fuel siphoned; and in the final case a Ford saloon car had its fuel tank drilled to enable fuel to be siphoned out. Plse be vigilant and report any suspicious activity near vehicles or fuel stores. Review your fuel security. Help us to reduce this crime.

During the last four days a large number of bicycles, i.e. 13, have been stolen in the NW Leics area. Bicycles are being stolen from back gardens, from outside shops, and from inside garden sheds. The one common factor is that they were all unlocked. Keep your bicycle safe. Use a security padlock or chain, and keep it safe. Don`t invite crime.

Fuel continues to be stolen by thieves. In two recent incidents goods vehicles in secure compounds were attacked and fuel siphoned. In a third case the fuel was stolen from a farm store. Review your security. Make sure that vehicle fuel caps are secure, and that CCTV is working correctly, recording good quality images.

Police are receiving more complaints than usual in relation to car crime. Thefts of, and from cars are increasing. The recent cold weather has also resulted in a number of cars being stolen, because their owners have left them with the engines running to warm up, either outside their homes, on their driveways, or even outside the local shop, whilst the driver "nipped inside" to collect a newspaper. This is an absolute gift to criminals. Don`t invite crime. Prevent it! |

I understand various doorstep sellers are working in the North West Leic`s area. Some callers may be legitimate, and some may be bogus. Be safe. Don`t take chances. If you don`t know, and are not expecting any callers, don`t open the door to them. You can speak to them through the closed front door. Ask them to write to you, to make an appointment, then you can arrange to have someone with you when they next visit. Be in control and say "No" to doorstep callers. A dark green Ford Fiesta registration R392 UWJ is suspected of being linked to the theft from motor vehicle on Top Street, Appleby Magna on Friday 14 th November 08, it is already of interest to Derbyshire Police re theft from motor vehicle's namely targeting beauty spots, woodland car parks etc. I would encourage any sightings of the vehicle to be reported to police.

On 17th November 2008, a lorry was attacked by thieves in Manchester and 10,000 Dorothy Perkins branded black ladies handbags were stolen. The handbags are distinctive, and have a large, square shaped silver chrome buckle clasp on one side of the bag, as well as matching studs, and rings on the handles. Friday 14 th November 08 at about 1540 hours a Black Nissan 4 x 4 motor vehicle was broken into on Top Street , Appleby Magna whilst the occupant was collecting her child from school. It is reported that two males were seen looking into vehicle's prior to the incident and they fled the scene in what is described as a blue / purple coloured Ford Fiesta either P or R registration travelling into the village. Driver is described as a white female with long dark hair, possibly another female occupant and the two male offenders who are also described as white males, gaunt looking. A resident of Ashby de la Zouch returned home one evening to find that his home had been burgled, the car keys taken, and his car stolen from the road outside. Very inconvenient!! Plse collect your car key loop from your local Police Office. They`re available at Coalville, Ashby, Castle Donington and Kegworth. The project was introduced to encourage people to fix the loops to their car keys, to remind them to hide their car keys whilst in their home, to avoid this inconvenient experience.

Bogus Waterboard officials have struck in two locations in Coalville within the last four days. These criminals have targeted elderly, vulnerable people, and tricked their way into their home to steal money. Don`t open the door to unexpected, unknown callers. Keep your door closed, speak through the door, or window and tell them to write to you for an appointment. Remember, there is no such thing as the Waterboard. Anyone who uses that word is BOGUS. Report suspicious callers to the Police immediately.

Several reports have been received about purses being stolen from handbags and shopping bags in Coalville and Ashby Town Centres. Be on your guard. Watch out for people who jostle you in shops or crowds. Purse bells will be distributed during local crime reduction roadshows, and there are free pursebells available from the Coalville Front Enquiry Office. Christmas is coming, so watch out for purse thieves. Report any suspicious behaviour immediately, including descriptions of suspects.

During the last four days there have been five instances of thefts of diesel fuel, either from parked cars or goods vehicles, or goods vehicles positioned in secure goods yards. Plse be vigilant and report any suspicious activity near parked motor vehicles. There appears to be an organised team stealing fuel in North West Leics, and the Police need your prompt assistance to catch them in the act. |

There was a disturbed break to a shed on Ashby Road , Measham where a white Vauxhall Astra van was possibly involved. Derbyshire have had a similar incident at Repton where a White Vauxhall Astra van part reg M70 was involved. We have had a dwelling burglary on Burton Road , Measham where forensic evidence has been recovered and I am awaiting results.
Hanson brick at Measham suffered a burglary, four have been arrested from Atherstone and are on bail whilst a number of enquiries are conducted.

A large number of Police Halloween posters have been provided to enable local residents to say "No Trick or Treaters" in the NW Leic`s district. To obtain your free poster simply call into your local Police office, or library, or the NW Leics DC offices. The posters should be displayed in your window to deter unwanted callers this Halloween. Apologies for the lack of information but it has been dare I say it rather quiet on Beat 32. Other beats however have seen an increase in both vehicle crime and domestic burglary.
I have looked at our crime recording system for the last thirty days across Beat 32 and the only real incidents of relevance are as follows.
Appleby Magna: Reports of two storage containers having been broken into on a Farm off Snarestone Road . Incident reported 28/09/08. No suspects.
Chilcote: Reports of an electric cooker having been stolen from a garage adjacent to a property on Netherseal Road , Chilcote. Incident reported 16/09/08. No suspects.
Measham: Reports of theft of a caravan from a farm on Gallows Lane , Measham. Incident reported 10/09/08. No suspects
Reports of garden ornaments being stolen from an address on Lime Avenue , Measham. Incident reported 01/10/08. No suspects. Newton Burgoland: Reports of two chain saws having been stolen from a shed on Nethercote. Incident reported 15/09/08. No suspects.
I have a number of Halloween posters which can be displayed by residents to discourage trick or treaters re the approaching date of Halloween, if you require any for yourself or perhaps an elderly neighbour please let me know and I will drop some off.

In one case at Castle Donington eight jackets/coats were stolen from the front porch of a house, and in another case clothing was stolen from a washing line at Thringstone. Car crime is increasing, particularly in the Castle Donington and Kegworth areas. Be on your guard. Thefts from motor vehicles have increased noticeably. Police operations are in place to reduce this category of crime, however we need your help. Don`t leave anything of value in your car. If you don`t want to lose it, remove it!! Report any suspicious incidents to the Police. Her name is Kathryn Coxhead, she`ll have a personal identification card, and she`ll be driving a red Renault car reg`n no S30 KLC. The work involves calling at peoples homes without advance warning, and asking them questions on a variety of subjects. She is not a Bogus Caller. NW Leics Police are appealing for help from local residents to recover a stolen bicycle. The bike was stolen from a camp site at Castle Donington between 9pm on Friday 29th and 1.30am on Saturday 30th August 2008. It is described as a custom made, gents silver and blue mountain bike with Marzochi air adjustable sprung front forks (the name badge Marzochi is fitted to the forks), a Topeak rack system, and Cateye front and rear lights. In addition, the bike is fitted with rechargeable battery pack powered electron lights. There is a vinyl letter "N" positioned on either side of the frame.
